Proposal pack content
Premise- A short stop-motion animation following the exploits of an art thief as he flees the scene of his latest crime- along with a closely guarded painting.
Tagline- '...one frame at a time' Duration- 2 minute 10 seconds Genre- A light-hearted, short, comedic chase film. |
Social value & function-This project is intended for older children but will appeal to other age groups also. It is intended to be a light-hearted animation that families could watch together.
Futures & transmedia- Further stories with the same characters could be made similar to 'Tom and Jerry', with the relationship between characters the same but in varying environments and situations. Process- Stop-motion animation with 3D puppets. It will be Muppety in appearance and Scooby-Doo esque in content. |
Genealogy- Existing children's cartoons from 1950-60's containing chase sequences such as 'Tom and Jerry', 'Scooby Doo', 'Looney Tunes'. The varying dynamic between characters and gags within the chase will be elements that I aim to bring into my film.

Character reference boards
These reference boards consist of illustrations to help inspire the designs of the characters in the film. I chose to look at 2D images as this is where I began to start thinking about the aesthetic of the characters. I aim to capture aspects from the design of Jim Henson's Muppets, mainly in terms of the colours and materials used to make the Muppets. I'm aiming towards a collection of mixed media puppets, that work well together and function well in both appearance and practicality.
All three characters feature in the film equally, but will have different levels of activity that they need to be able to achieve. The flamingo and the frog both move quite a bit unlike the bee. The requirements need to be thought about for both the design and the technical drawings of the puppets. |
